Willian drops Arteta claim, Arsenal urged to sign Boateng, Willian reveals Arsenal decision and Grealish can be next Gazza in Arsenal roundup…

Brazilian midfielder Willian has backed Mikel Arteta to become a successful manager as the Spaniard continues to impress at Arsenal.

Despite all the hype surrounding the Spaniard before the season started, Arteta has seen his side become very inconsistent and have already lost four of their opening eight Premier League fixtures.

However, The Gunners are expecting to finish this campaign inside the top four and to secure a return to Champions League football and Willian claims that the former Manchester City assistant coach has both the potential and ambition to be a top manager.

Willian said to Four Four Two: ‘He’ll be a top manager, I’ve no doubt about it,’ Willian says.

‘The potential is there, as is the ambition. In a few years he’ll be considered one of the best managers in the Premier League – and the world.

‘Obviously you must win trophies to be considered one of the best, and it will happen for him sooner rather than later.

‘I’m impressed with the way he talks and explains his tactical thoughts – he’s quick to read the game and make adjustments when needed. It’s been fantastic to train under him so far and I’m learning a lot.’

Arsenal target and Aston Villa star Jack Grealish can become the Paul Gascoigne of his generation.

Over the past 12 months, Grealish has been developing very nicely at Aston Villa and has become one of the most talked about players in the Premier League, with his performances even earning him a regular starting spot in the England National side.

That has led to rumours that the likes of Arsenal Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham have all been linked with a transfer move for the player, although his £60 million asking price may be too high for clubs to pay right now.

But United legend Bryan Robson is convinced that Grealish has what it takes to be the next Gazza of his generation, and believes it all does not have to end in tears for the Aston Villa star the way it did for Gazza.

England legend Robbo declared on the SUN: “No English player in recent years has excited me as much as Grealish does. It’s the way he glides past people, his range of passing, he’s so pleasing on the eye.

“Grealish is always on the front foot, always looking to create. It’s what Gazza loved doing, using his ability to go past defenders on both sides, scoring great goals, pleasing the crowd. And some of Grealish’s goals have been outstanding.

“You can see that, just like Gazza, he loves what he’s doing in being able to manipulate the ball.

“Grealish has got that natural ability the same as Gazza. It’s what sets them apart from the rest.”

Willian has revealed why he did not join Barcelona before signing for Arsenal this summer after he decided to leave Chelsea

The Brazilian was an easy firm favourite at Chelsea and one player that Frank Lampard was desperate to keep hold of last season, but contract issues meant that he left the club when the season was up last year.

There were many options for the Brazilian, as he is a world class player, and it was widely expected that he would make the move to La Liga and sign with Barcelona, but that did not happen and in the end he made the move to Arsenal.

Willian has made no secret of his love for London and is eagerness to stay in the Premier League, but he has not come out and revealed just why he did not make that big move to Barcelona in the transfer window.

Speaking to FourFourTwo, the ex-Chelsea star claimed the Spanish side did not put an official offer in for him, The 32-year-old said: “There are always rumours, but I didn’t know about any other official offer.

“Indeed, there was a lot of talk about Barcelona for the past few seasons, but I wouldn’t have gone there just because they’re Barca.

“I wouldn’t go to any club without hearing about their targets and what they wanted from me.”

Arsenal “need characters” like Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng, according to Kevin Campbell.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta may not have spent a ton of money in the transfer window, but the players that he managed to bring to the club have added some much needed quality to the squad, especially the signing of Thomas Partey.

But despite all the hype surrounding the Spaniard before the season started, Arteta has seen his side become very inconsistent and have already lost four of their opening eight Premier League fixtures.

That has led to some speculation in the media that Arsenal are actually interested in trying to secure a deal for Boateng, who has been linked with a move away from Bayern over the past few weeks as all indications suggest that they are open to letting the German leave.

And amid all the speculation, Campbell hopes his old club will reignite their interest in Boateng next year, with it his belief that the German would bring much-needed experience to the Gunners’ back-line.

“You can never have enough quality and you can never have enough players who have done it at the top level,” the former Arsenal striker told Football Insider.

“Looking to maybe recruit someone like Jerome Boateng shows where the club is at.

“Gabriel and Saliba would benefit from having somebody like Boateng at the club. I am not sure how long David Luiz will be at the club so Jerome Boateng could be that experienced player who helps others fulfil their potential.

“Arsenal need characters. They need strong characters who have been there and done it at the top level. Jerome Boateng is certainly one.

“If you put it out to the Arsenal fan base they will say, ‘Oh he is too old.’ But beggars cannot be choosers and we need experience. He is a serial winner.”

Boateng is an experienced player, but he is not Thiago Silva and would actually struggle if he made the move back to the Premier League.
